Having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2006, the International Bank of Qatar (IBQ), although new in name and management, is the oldest locally owned bank in Qatar, having been founded under the name of ANZ Grindlays in Doha in 1956.  Qatar has changed a great deal since then – as have we. 

In the year 2000, the Standard Chartered Group acquired Grindlays, and in August 2004, the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK), the largest bank in Kuwait and one of the leading banks in the

Middle East acquired a 20% stake and assumed management responsibilities. In July 2007, NBK increased its share to 30%, whilst the remaining 70% of IBQ is owned by prominent local groups.
